Common Redshank caught in a subsistence bird hunters net. Professional hunters trapped 400+ shorebirds in one night in October 2011 on Nan Thar Island. The hunters arrive by large rowing boats late at night on new moons. Fishing was bad so they strung 100+ foot nets across the flats to catch birds moving from feeding areas to roosts. As the area is not patrolled there is no way to know how often this is happening and how many Spoon-billed Sandpipers are being killed. Rakhine State, Myanmar. January.
