Fishermens totems that were erected to protest the destruction of the Saemangeum estuary still stand behind the 33 km long Saemangeum Seawall. This used to be one of the most productive estuarine systems in the Yellow Sea and was critical to both the livelihoods of local communities and to migratory bird species, especailly the Spoon-billed Sandpiper and Great Knot. Saemangeum, South Korea. October.
