About Gerrit Vyn Photography
Gerrit Vyn is a wildlife, nature, and conservation photographer dedicated to producing compelling images that illustrate natural history, conservation, and biological stories. He provides stock and assignment photography, natural history consultation and writing, and multimedia production services to a range of clients. He brings a lifetime of natural history study and an artists eye to each project he undertakes.
Gerrit's experience also includes working as a field biologist in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest and directing a conservation organization in southern Africa. He has spent recent years working as an audio producer and natural history sound recordist at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. His production credits include the definitive audio collections, Voices of North American Owls and Bird Songs of the Pacific Northwest. Gerrit regularly leads field expeditions to record wildlife in some of North America's most remote and alluring wilderness areas.
Gerrit's images and writing appear regularly in books, magazines, websites, and multi-media productions. Recent publications include a half dozen cover photographs and several feature articles in Living Bird magazine. Gerrit was the primary image provider for the 2008 State of the Birds report that was delivered to the Obama administration and congress by a coalition of leading environmental organizations. Over 700 of his avian images appear in the authoritative reference, The Birds of North America Online. Gerrit's work has been featured on the NPR programs, Living on Earth, Birdnote, and Morning Edition.
